Back To School – Preschool and Kindergarten Edition

Summer has flown by, and now we find ourselves on the doorstep of a new school year. As the summer days begin to fade into fall, and the days feel a little more busy; I hope I will still slow down enough to notice all the little things, the most important things, the lasting things. I hope that I will be mindful of all the ways I am guiding and shaping and influencing little hearts to seek and know Jesus.

It feels a little surreal walking into this new season of grade school and all the decisions and changes that come with it. As scary as it feels to send these precious little hearts into the world this thought keeps coming back to me – mama, we are world changers. We are raising the next generation. We are directing and guiding their future. God has a plan for their tiny little hands and feet, and I believe it’s bigger than what we can imagine. Think of Joshua and Esther and Ruth and David. Think of how their lives changed nations, changed history; and I can’t help but wonder if you and me, mama, are raising the next generation of world changers. Individuals willing to walk into a calling larger than themselves and watch God move in wildly, unbelievable ways.

But today, if the future feels uncertain and the decisions weighty, I completely, one hundred percent understand. But here’s something that is sometimes a little harder for me to always understand: if you and I love these little hearts as much as we do, how much more does God, their Creator, love their precious souls? They are made in His image and loved from the depth of God’s unfathomable Father’s heart. They are treasured beyond our imagination.

It makes me think of that song “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”.

He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got the wind and the rain in His hands.

He’s got the little bitty baby in his hands.

He’s got you and me sister in his hands.

He’s got ev’rybody in His hands.

So dear mama, as we walk into this new school year, making decisions the best we know how, may we hold on to this truth – the little hearts we are sending out into the world are loved, valued, and deeply known by their Creator. It is my prayer that we will continually point them back to Him. I hope we won’t forget that all those seemingly little things – those few extra moments of play, the holding of hands while we walk, the time spent sitting together on the sofa talking about the day, the never ending questions that lead to deeper conversations and discoveries, and the family dinners around the kitchen table – are really the big things that leave a lasting impact. May we be the voice that speaks truth into their lives and calls them higher and closer to God.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

And for you and me mama, it is my prayer that we will discover deeper meaning and purpose in this role called motherhood. It is my prayer that on the good days and the hard days we will find all the ways the light still shines in and around us. It is my prayer that we will come to realize all the ways we are changing the world just by being a mama.

Lamentations 3:21-24 – But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.
